Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine the effect of compensation on the work motivation of meter recording employees in the Customer Relations Department of a municipal water utility in Tidore Kepulauan.

Methods: A quantitative research design was employed, involving 43 respondents selected from meter recording employees. Data were collected through questionnaires and observations and analyzed using correlation and t-test statistical techniques at a 95% confidence level.

Findings: The results indicate a strong positive relationship between compensation and work motivation, as reflected by a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.735. The t-test results (t = 6.941 > t-table = 2.021) confirm that compensation has a statistically significant effect on employees’ work motivation.

Implications: These findings suggest that improving compensation schemes, including operational support and transportation allowances, can enhance employee motivation and potentially improve service efficiency in public utility organizations.

Novelty: This study provides empirical evidence on the role of compensation in influencing work motivation among meter recording employees in a municipal water utility context, a relatively underexplored area in public service research, particularly in small island regions such as Tidore Kepulauan.
